Professor Daniel Berckmans has a Master degree in Bio-Engineering and a Ph D in Controlling Biological Systems. He has worked at KU Leuven for 35 years as a full professor, teaching and doing research.
He was leading a research team in real-time modelling of individual living organisms: humans and animals. He is worldwide recognized as the spiritual father of the field of Precision Livestock Farming: real-time monitoring of livestock. In 2001, the research team started working on human applications: real-time monitoring in intensive care units, stress monitoring, physical condition monitoring, etc.
He is co-author of over 300 scientific publications and coordinated several EU-projects. He started 2 spin-off companies on real-time monitoring of individuals and is actively involved and working within BioRICS as CTO and President of the Board.
