Is a Senior Researcher and a Research Fellow candidate in the COS lab at the DFKI in Saarbrücken, Germany. Since 2007, he is head of the Affective Computing Group, http://affective.dfki.de.
He has fully coordinated or taken workpackage leads in over ten national and European research projects. His focus of research is the field of Affective Computing, a sub-field of Artificial Intelligence centered on the human emotional intelligence and its employment for Human-Computer Interaction.
He acquired a long-term experience in the evaluation, representation, simulation, and human-like display of emotion and natural behavior. His work has been employed in many national and international projects to extend interactive Virtual Characters with a social-emotional user model to achieve higher levels of empathy for and acceptance of such systems.
